Request for evidence on the role of the NFU in the UK – its influence and power

We are looking for existing research evidence on the influence and power of the NFU in the UK in order to inform research to trace the evolution of the NFU organisation and the current strength of its claim to be the Voice of British Farming. While acknowledging the challenges involved in representing interests as diverse as those of Britain’s farmers and growers, we hope to assess the NFU’s approval ratings among the farming community for the way it is run, the work it does and its general political direction of travel. The research will also cover the NFU’s influence on specific areas of EU and UK agricultural policy, how it is perceived by civil society interest groups (particularly those campaigning for sustainability and animal welfare) and how the organisation orientates itself to public debate.
