Research Brief: Monsanto’s influence on global food and agricultural policy

DEADLINE NOW PASSED. We are looking for a researcher who can assist with a short piece of research on the role of Monsanto in global food and agricultural policy.

Global Justice Now has an ongoing campaign that seeks to expose and challenge corporate influence on our global food systems. The campaign’s focus so far has centred on challenging the UK’s support for approaches such as the G7’s New Alliance for Food Security and Nutrition in Africa, a programme that facilitates large corporations to control African agricultural resources and food systems through major corporate investments and neoliberal policy reform. We have been pressuring the UK government to withdraw support for the New Alliance, and to instead align aid spending to support a ‘food sovereignty’ agenda that supports small-scale farmers to control their own food systems.

At this stage of the campaign we would like to develop a deeper understanding of the way large corporations are able to exert influence on policy making processes at national, regional and global levels. The first corporation we want to focus on is Monsanto.
