Making sense of sustainability assessments

A confusing number of assessment tools exists in the sustainable food sector (and more continue to be developed), for different stages in the supply chain and covering different dimensions of sustainability, either economic, environmental or social. The Food Research Collaboration aims to help Sustainable Food Hubs navigate this complexity, by working closely with a group of food hubs to identify the tools and indicators most relevant to the scale and values of their work. This will help them find out what to measure and how, and how to report effectively on their findings. This, in turn, will help them – and us – to make the case that they deserve policy support and investment, and will give them the means to communicate and evidence their values to their local communities.
