A Food Research Collaboration Policy Brief

Rosalind Sharpe

The final report of the 2019-2021 review of the UK’s food system and its suite of supporting documents run to nearly 1,000 pages. Painstakingly, and with detailed evidence, the report analyses ‘how the food system really works, the damage it is doing to our bodies and our ecosystem, and the interventions we could make to prevent these harms’. Those interventions are boiled down in the report into 14 recommendations. But this relatively small number of proposals actually represents a comprehensive programme to transform the way England feeds itself, from domestic and imported supplies, to meet government targets and aspirations for improved public health, climate mitigation and environmental restoration. Embedded in the 14 recommendations are 70 separate recommended actions for the Government or government departments or agencies. We have extrapolated these and present them in a Table in this Policy Brief.
