Clive Black from Shore Capital joins the FRC for our Food Bites series and explores the current issues in the food system and what civil society organisations and academics could be doing to work towards solutions that address the issues within the food system.

Clive is ranked the UK’s top retail analyst by Thomson Reuters Extel in 2014 and was the City AM analyst of the year for 2013. He holds a PhD. from the Queen’s University of Belfast; his thesis was on the Northern Ireland food industry. He worked in London for the National Farmers’ Union for five years, where he contributed to the farming industry joining the real world, which included reaching out to the engaging hands of leading campaigners such as Prof. Tim Lang.

After joining Northern Foods, led by the charismatic labour peer Lord Haskins, he moved into stockbroking research with Charterhouse Tilney/ING Financial Markets, where he headed up Western European retailing. He joined Shore Capital in 2003 as Head of Research. Additionally, he is on the City Leadership Group of Queen’s University of Belfast, where he was awarded the Volunteer Alumni of the Year award for 2013, sat on the Food Standard’s Authority’s External Advisory group 2010-2012, was a contributor to the Elliott Report into the horse meat scandal and previously was Treasurer of the Caroline Walker Trust.
