Food policy crumbs in the 2022 Queen’s Speech

Amid day-to-day distractions and crises, and with a changing cast of ministers, it’s hard to keep track of what the government is actually doing on food policy. This report examines the six Bills laid out in the last Queen’s Speech that had the potential to affect food policy (only two of which have since become law). It concludes that while food appears prominently in policy documents such as White Papers, this prominence is rarely translated into law. In fact there are very few concrete food policy proposals in the current Parliament, and the crumbs that are there do not reflect a joined-up or systemic approach to food policy.
