A Food Research Collaboration Policy Insight

By Vicky Sibson, Naomi Fallon and Natalie Shenker

The UK’s 2020 Agriculture Act requires the Government to report to Parliament on the state of food security at least once every three years. In this Policy Insight, Vicky Sibson, Naomi Fallon and Natalie Shenker examine how babies and infants are fed in the UK, and analyse the international supply chains for infant feeding products. Given how vulnerable global food supply chains are to disruptions from a range of geopolitical and environmental causes, the authors recommend that infant formula should be included in the now legally required triennial UK food security assessment, and call for measures to enhance transparency and minimise contamination.
